There is much to be said about finding a niche market and developing customized products to suit their needs but we are constantly left speechless by the one Rooibos tea blend that keeps on surprising us with its steady successful penetration of a very niche market, breastfeeding moms. More so, as the world is chasing after instant solutions and quick fixes, because time is of the essence. Breastfeeding takes time, just as the development of unique, tasteful and effective tea blends take time.
Time is rewarding us.
The annual Mediterranean Taste Awards introduced a sensory scientific discipline to “evoke, measure, analyse and interpret reactions to those characteristics of foods and materials as they are perceived by the senses of sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing. The food products are presented to the judges for blind tasting unbranded.” They also introduced two more different levels of “blind assessment, apart from the regular tasting. Cross tasting of samples in a second group of judges and repetition of the same sample from the same group of judges that performed the first tasting.”
Carmién Tea received the following awards:
- Gold Innovation award for Nursing tea for breastfeeding moms (and for those who simply like the taste), a blend of Rooibos and a combination of Fenugreek, Fennel and Aniseed.
- Silver Innovation award for Cranberry Hibiscus, a delicious sweet-tart cold brew blend of Rooibos and berry flavours with dried berry and hibiscus pieces.
- Gold Taste award for Earl Grey, with added bergamot, a natural fragrant from the bergamot orange, a citrus fruit. Earl Grey was traditionally only available as a black tea but our rooibos option gives Earl Grey lovers a healthy, caffeine free choice.
Taste/Innovation Food & Beverage Awards are examined according to the five (5) general consumer expectations: pleasure, health, convenience, physical, and ethics.
Henry James says it best for us, “There are two kinds of taste, the taste for emotions of surprise and the taste for emotions of recognition.”
